Representative Dacia Grayber

Oregon House of Representatives

I was 10 years old when I decided I wanted to be a firefighter. It wasn’t a common career path for women back then, and to say that I experienced barriers along the way is an understatement. I’ve never backed down, instead of pursuing my dream with the same passion and hard work I apply to everything I do. Every time the alarms go off as I race to my fire engine, I think of all the barriers to what we were told was possible, and then I do my best to smash them. I am a community advocate. I am a firefighter. I am a mother.

I have long believed that we can work together to redefine what is possible. It is hope and joy even when it tastes like struggle and loss. It is the power of our stories, the power of our abilities to overcome and thrive, tenacious optimism, and occasional grace. It’s your story, and it’s mine.

It is the honor and privilege of my lifetime to represent Oregon House District 28 in the state legislature. Our house district is made up of parts of Southwest Portland, Garden Home, Hillsdale, Raleigh Hills, and Beaverton. As a firefighter, I have spent my life serving the community, one call at a time. I have had the incredible privilege of being called to people’s most desperate and vulnerable moments and experienced the beauty of trying to make things better. Every time the alarms go off and I race to the engine, I carry with me the reminder of what’s possible when we don’t take NO for an answer, instead of pushing to redefine what is possible. I will carry this first-hand experience and motivation to redefine what’s possible into the legislature with me every day.
